Here To Stay by Mark Edwards – review.

A beautiful home. A loving wife. And in-laws to die for.

Gemma Robinson comes into Elliot’s life like a whirlwind, and they marry and settle into his home. When she asks him if her parents can come to stay for a couple of weeks, he is keen to oblige – he just doesn’t quite know what he’s signing up for.

The Robinsons arrive with Gemma’s sister, Chloe, a mysterious young woman who refuses to speak or leave her room. Elliot starts to suspect that the Robinsons are hiding a dark secret. And then there are the scars on his wife’s body that she won’t talk about . . .

As Elliot’s in-laws become more comfortable in his home, encroaching on all aspects of his life, it becomes clear that they have no intention of moving out. To protect Gemma, and their marriage, Elliot delves into the Robinsons’ past. But is he prepared for the truth?

From the two million copy bestselling author comes a tale about the chilling consequences of welcoming strangers into your home.

My thoughts

Eek! This book totally scared and angered me. Having people stay at your house is always an uncomfortable experience, there’s no denying it. Elliot welcomes his new in-laws with enthusiasm. After all, everything in his life had slotted neatly into place. Great job, gorgeous house, lovely new wife and the best neighbours.

It reminded me a little of the film ‘Pacific Heights’ starring Melanie Griffith, Matthew Modine and Michael Keaton, which is one of my favourite thrillers. To have everything you’ve lovingly restored treated so badly – grrr! Angry again.

To say I was gripped is an understatement. Once this book had planted its opening chapters in my mind, I couldn’t put it down. The plot was sophisticated and I love that Elliot was a scientist too. An awesome amount of research must have gone into some elements of this storyline.

As I read on, my tensions were rising. Just as you think things can’t get any worse, they do. To think, the amount of power someone could have over you is terrifying. This book is a must read for any psychological thriller fans. It’s fast, tense and dark. And the ending, whoah! Put it on your read list, now.

Thanks for reading!
