The Affair by Sheryl Browne.

This book has to contain one of the most evocative openings to a book I’ve come across. The first person chapter had me equally invested and immersed, and questioning whose point of view this was. What led to this moment and the thoughts that come clearly to this character whilst considering committing such an atrocity, make me eager to get stuck into what would become a roller coaster of a book.

The characters had depth and just as I thought I’d sussed them, I was proven wrong. As each of their layers were peeled back you realised some became stronger while others showed their vulnerabilities. This book doesn’t hold back. It begins with a tragedy, one that would have any caring human being, feeling hurt for the family.

I read this book in three sittings, the last sitting taking care of the final half of the book. This was a fast mover. If you love psychological thrillers, with secrets and twists, then read The Affair.

 Thank you for reading.
