Guilty of loving Derek’s books

Derek Coleman has produced one of my favourite crime/investigation series. I love his books. After discovering that he was doing a giveaway this month, I had to write about it and share this excellent news with everyone I know. Since the first book ‘Guilty,’ I’ve been absolutely hooked. Each book is standalone and provides the reader with a fantastic payoff.

Let me tell you a little about Derek’s work. It’s fast paced, exciting, well written and the characters have very rounded personalities that you get to know and love. If you don’t believe me, download a free sample of his work on Amazon. I can guarantee that you won’t be able to put this book down.

‘Guilty’ has all the elements of a gripping novel. An aged mystery, a catastrophic miscarriage of justice and a fabulous romantic element. You’d be mad not to download it.

A bit of background (Amazon profile).

Derek was born in Birmingham, UK but now lives in West Virginia, in a land where the tree-clad mountains dip into the Ohio River Valley. He’s won various prizes and has an ongoing column in the Putnam Herald newspaper. As an avid fan of military history, he’s written numerous articles, particularly on the Revolutionary War.

‘Guilty?’ was his first crime novel and the sequels, ‘Beneficiary,’ ‘Traitor’ and ‘Innocent’ are also now available as is ‘The Litchfield Conspiracy,’a political thriller.

‘Weoley,’ a blockbuster covering 900 years of British history, is selling well as is “Hessians,’ the first book in a series about the Revolutionary War.

‘Cheating,’ the fifth book in his Dean and Steph detective series should be available by the end of 2015 and ‘The Prince’s Puzzle’ a 17th century detective story will be out in the summer.

“GUILTY?” The first book in the Dean & Steph detective series will be free on Amazon Kindle from April 24 till April 27. Don’t miss this opportunity to try a great detective series absolutely free!

An executed criminal, a lingering doubt about his guilt and a hunt to find a twenty year-old truth.

If John Grisham, Michael Connelly and David Baldacci combined to write a fast paced crime story based in the tri-state area of West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky that story would be GUILTY? The debut novel from Derek Coleman.

Trevor Lloyd Morden died from lethal injection in the South Ohio Correctional Facility. He had five appeals and lost them all, not only because the evidence is against him but also because the victim’s father, William J. Wendover, fought to ensure his daughter, Billy Jo’s, killer gets what he deserves.

Morden had nothing to leave behind except one thing, a dying declaration that he was innocent. This starts a spark of doubt in Wendover’s mind. His own life is rapidly coming to an end but before he too passes on he has to know the truth and so he looks for a man who might find it for him.

That man is Dean Witton, ex-marine, ex-cop and ex-husband. His wife left him virtually broke so he bought a store, lives in the back room and works as a private investigator where West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky meet.

Although wary of getting involved with women again, Dean is good friends with Steph Taylor, the owner of a neighboring store. Steph is an enigma. Smart, blonde and beautiful, she makes it clear that she would not be against deepening the relationship.

Steph persuades Dean to let her tag along as they begin looking into Billy Jo’s murder by visiting the prison. It seems an ordinary case but the deeper they delve the more mud they stir until Dean himself is being stalked by someone with homicide on their mind.

Narrowly surviving three attempts on his life Dean fights to put the pieces of the puzzle together, little realizing that the killer is someone he never dreamed was involved and that finding the solution would put both himself, and Steph, in mortal danger .

GUILTY? is a great, page-turner of a crime novel with a hint of romance that shows coincidences do happen and the consequences can be deadly.

Other books in the Steph and Dean series

My Amazon review:

Steph and Dean have done it again! Congratulations to the writer for this brilliant fast paced crime novel. I love the relationship and interaction between the two investigators, they are brimming with personality and any reader would connect with them instantly.

The story begins with an insight into a terrible crime that was committed in the past by someone very high up in politics, then an investigation begins. Soon follows the thrill, the chase, the fight and the danger.

This is a brilliant book in a series and is also a brilliant stand alone novel. You do not need to have read the first one to enjoy this one. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. I can’t wait to read the next one.

My Amazon review:

Brilliant! This is the third book in the Steph and Dean series. The story begins with Dean’s sister who is under threat from her supposedly dead husband. Tension is well built and the story moves at a fast pace. I’m looking forward to reading the next story in the series and I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.

My Amazon review:
To be continued. I have save this to read on my holiday ……….
